We have over 70 years experience within the HVAC industry and work on medium to large scale projects, ranging between R 5 million and R 500 million in value.

Our 250 staff members across our branches in Johannesburg, Western Cape, Kwa-Zulu Natal, as well as Mozambique and the UAE, enable us to service South Africa and Sub Saharan Africa; while our in-house manufacturing facilities allow us to manufacture key HVAC components at competitive prices and shorter lead times.

Operating since 1945

Improvair Environmental Solutions (IES), is part of the Thermaire Investments group, which is fully owed by French company ENGIE. IES one of the oldest air conditioning companies in South Africa. The company was started in 1945 by Mr. Robert J. S. Caldwell who began providing hospital ships for the British Admiralty in the Port Elizabeth harbour with air conditioning.

Since then, the company has been through a number of name and ownership changes, and all assets and liabilities were bought from Murray & Roberts in 2005. In 2018, ENGIE bought a 100% shares of the Thermaire Investments Group, which included IES.

Our management team has a combined experience of over 300 years, and is headed by Mr. J. U. Hargovan (JP) who joined the company in 1995.

In the Gauteng region IES is ISO 9001:2008 certified and also graded by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) at a level 7ME. We are a level 4 BBBEE contributor and continue to strive for a level 1 grading.
